Intellectual Sight-Reading Series Vol. 1 Accidental Signs
Intellectual Sight-Reading Series Vol. 1 Accidental Signs
"Intellectual sight-reading series" is specially designed for immediate-advance musicians who wish to develop a better mental response and intellectual understanding to accidental signs while reading the music scores. It is intentionally written for saxophone. However, it can certainly be used for all instruments. All exercises are based on "reference note" concept derived from author's psychological studies which helps to stabilize users' mental realizations to each individual note and applied accidental signs. It is advised to use metronome when practicing exercises in this book. However, do not feel the need to push the speed. It is also advised to use this book as if you are reading a novel. Concentrated and repetitive study of each individual exercise is not recommended.
Warm-up Exercise (Part I & Part II) is designed to be used as mental warm-up exercises. Pitch Center Exercise (Part III) is designed to be used as the core study of this book. Musicians can gain a solid mental understanding as to each reference note and its related notes/accidental signs while practicing exercises in this section. Comprehensive Exercise (Part IV, Part V, and Part VI) is designed to be used as supplemental study for this book. This section is comprised of exercises designed to meet professional musicians' need to familiarize themselves with accidental sings through step-wise, interval, and arpeggio studies based upon various settings.
How to use this book
It is recommended that you browse through Part I and Part II every time you use this book: those parts are designed as mental warm-ups exercises. Do not feel the need to play each exercise fast, the idea is to develop a better coordinate between mental realization and physical technique. It is advised to use following steps as you go through exercise in this book: first step is to read through each exercise out loud by pitch letter names without your instrument, second step is to read through each exercise out loud by pitch letter names while fingering each note on your instrument, final step is to actually play each exercise on your instrument.
