Chromatic Transposition of II-V-I Coltrane Lines
After a weekend of trade-fours between light rain, Abbas Kiarostami’s minimalist film Taste of Cherry, and few dreams in which I was transformed into figures in Jean-Michel Basquiat’s paintings, I was finally able to hush myself and stared at the blank computer screen long enough to trick myself into doing something half-useful. I put John Coltrane’s classic album A Love Supreme on. Laid back. Follow the beat like a blasé jazz-loving squirrel while fearlessly editing Chromatic Transposition of II-V-I Coltrane Lines project.
Chromatic Transposition of II-V-I Coltrane Lines
This project is designed to meet the demands of intermediate to advanced jazz saxophonists as they establish the dexterity of their sight-reading skill in all key signatures. Five ii-V-I jazz lines with the utilization of tenor saxophonist John Coltrane’s multi-tonic system are transposed chromatically, covering the full register of a saxophone to extend the technical flexibility. The author of this project avoids lengthy theoretical annotation, aiming to establish the practical aspect as a sight-reading exercise. However, it is advised that the saxophonists review the analytical structure and the motivic construction of each Coltrane ii-V-I line parallel to the sight-reading practice in order to enhance the learning activity. Although the project is designed specifically for jazz saxophonists, it can be used by other jazz instrumentalists who wish to develop their sight-reading skill.

Is it possible to have mp3 files instead of BIAB (SGU) files. These are not as universal as mp3 or scorch files for Sibelius.
Clarek, uploading alots of mp3 files might not be possible at the moment due to my slow internet connection:-(

Hey bro. first off THANK you for all this material. Im acutally a guitar student at LA music acadamey in pasadena CA. I have been taking some of these lines.
I just started looking at the chromatic 2 5 1 lines of coltrane...
just curious on the theory behind whats going on. From what I can tell he starts in dminor, plays 2 5 of Ab then 2 5 of E then 2 5 of C... Which is kind of superimposing these changes over the whole 2 5 1 progression in cmaj... Is this right? how would you analize it...
Hello Isaac,
Superimposing Coltrane's Three-Tonic System above the standard ii-V-I progression is a really fun way to expand one's harmonic vocabulary. Maybe this post would be useful to you:-)
Respects,
JK
