The Union Pacific Railroad Museum, located in the historic district in downtown Council Bluffs, was founded in 1921, featuring railroad-related artifacts and documents in its Union Pacific Collection. The museum currently occupies the former Council Bluffs Free Public Library, a Carnegie library built in 1903 in Beaux Arts style with financial support of philanthropist Andrew Carnegie. In 1998, the building was renovated with supports from public, the City, and the Friends of the Union Pacific Railroad to house the Union Pacific Collection.
