The historical marker of Chouteau’s Church can be found in front of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception located on the West 12th Street in downtown Kansas City. St. Francis Regis Church, built in 1835 in this location, was better known as Chouteau’s Church as many parishioners were closely associated with the trading post of Francois Chouteau, the “Grande Dame” of Kansas City. In 1857, aiming to serve the local Catholic people, Father Bernard Donnelly initiated the construction of a new brick church on the site. In 1880, Bishop John Joseph Hogan selected the site to construct the new Cathedral to serve the growing dioceses .  The new structure,  known as Kansas City's Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, was ready for service in 1883 as the tallest building in Kansas City.  The Cathedral’s golden dome, replacing the original copper dome, was completed in 1960.
