The Auditorium Building, located on South Michigan Avenue in downtown Chicago, was designed by Dandkmar Adler and Louis Suillivan. It was completed in 1889 and was known as the tallest building in Chicago and the largest building in the United States. The structure featured 136 offices, a 400-room hotel, and a 4.300 seat auditorium and housed the Chicago Symphony Orchestra until 1904.  In 1947, the Auditorium Building was sold to Roosevelt University, a non-profit university named after both Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt, was founded in 1945 by Edward J. Sparling, for one dollar to become the institution’s permanent home.

The Auditorium Building was designated as a National Historic Landmark in 1975.
