The Lincoln Children’s Museum, promoting “learning through exploration and discovery,” was opened in 1898, operating in a rented 7,500 square-feet space in the Atrium in downtown Lincoln. In 1991, the museum was moved to a space that was previously used as a department store in 13th & O Streets, providing activities created in association with local organizations such as the Lincoln Fire Department, the Lincoln Center Kiwanis Club and Junior League, and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Athletic Department. A campaign to raise fund to move the Lincoln Children's Museum to a new facility was initiated in 1998. The new facility, located on P Street in downtown Lincoln, was opened to the public in 2000.
