The establishment of the Albrecht-Kemper Museum of Art, located in St. Joseph, Kansas, was initiated by the St. Joseph Art League back in 1913, acquiring William Merritt Chase’ painting A venetian Balcony as its first work. The Museum, based on the Albrecht Gallery established in 1966, underwent a major expansion and was renamed as the Albrecht-Kemper Museum of Art to honor its major supporter R. Crosby Kemper.
